Bibliotheca Corviniana

1460s–1490 · 15th century · Also known as Corvina Library

The Bibliotheca Corviniana was the library of Matthias Corvinus, king of Hungary, assembled at Buda mainly in the 1470s and 1480s. With perhaps two thousand volumes, many of them richly illuminated manuscripts made in Florence and Buda, it was one of the largest libraries of Renaissance Europe. It was scattered after the Ottoman capture of Buda, and over two hundred volumes survive in libraries across the world.
