Crown of Thorns
The Crown of Thorns is a relic venerated as the crown placed on Jesus's head before the crucifixion. It was kept in Constantinople until Emperor Baldwin II of the Latin Empire, desperate for money, pawned it to Venetian merchants; Louis IX of France acquired it in 1238 and built the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris to house it. It survived the 2019 fire at Notre-Dame de Paris, where it was kept.
