Charles I of Hungary
Charles I of Hungary, also called Charles Robert, was the first Angevin king of Hungary, who won the throne after the Árpád line died out in 1301. By 1321 he had broken the power of great oligarchs such as Matthew Csák. He reformed royal finances and introduced the gold florin, minted from Kremnica gold, and allied with Poland and Bohemia.
