Wang Yan (Former Shu)
Wang Yan was the second and last emperor of Former Shu, one of the Ten Kingdoms, in Sichuan, succeeding his father Wang Jian in 918. Pleasure-loving and extravagant, he left government to favourites. When a Later Tang army invaded in 925 he surrendered with little resistance and, on the way to Luoyang in 926, was killed with his family on the Later Tang emperor's orders.
