Williamite War in Ireland

1688–1691 · 17th century · Also known as Jacobite War in Ireland

The Williamite War in Ireland was fought from 1688 to 1691 between the supporters of the deposed Catholic king James II and those of William III, who had replaced him in the Glorious Revolution. William's victories at the Boyne (1690) and Aughrim (1691) and the surrender of Limerick under the Treaty of Limerick (1691) confirmed Protestant rule in Ireland.
