Limerick
Limerick is a city in the south-west of Ireland, on the River Shannon, and gives its name to County Limerick. Founded as a Norse settlement in the 10th century, it became the capital of the O'Brien kings of Thomond before falling to the Anglo-Normans. Its sieges of 1690 and 1691 ended with the Treaty of Limerick, which closed the Williamite war in Ireland.
