Derry
Derry, officially Londonderry, is a city on the River Foyle in the north-west of Northern Ireland. It grew from a sixth-century monastery associated with Saint Columba and was rebuilt by the City of London companies during the Plantation of Ulster, its walls being completed in 1619. Its Protestant defenders withstood a siege by the army of James II for 105 days in 1689.
