Derna
Derna is a port city on the Mediterranean coast of Cyrenaica in eastern Libya. In 1805, during the First Barbary War, a small force of United States Marines and mercenaries led by William Eaton captured it from the Karamanli rulers of Tripoli, an action that helped bring about the peace treaty that year. In 2023 the city was devastated when two dams burst during Storm Daniel.
