Władysław II the Exile

1105–1159 · 12th century

Władysław II the Exile was the eldest son of Bolesław III Wrymouth and, under his father's testament of 1138, High Duke of Poland and Duke of Silesia. His attempt to dispossess his younger half-brothers failed, and in 1146 they drove him into exile in Germany, where he died in 1159. With imperial backing his sons recovered Silesia in 1163, founding the Silesian line of the Piasts.
