Wuyuan Commandery

127 BCE · 2nd century BCE

Wuyuan Commandery was a frontier commandery of Han China, created in 127 BCE on the great northern bend of the Yellow River, around modern Baotou in Inner Mongolia. Lying on the border with the steppe, it was repeatedly contested by the Xiongnu and later the Xianbei, and the region was abandoned by the Chinese court at the end of the Han.
