Inner Mongolia

Inner Mongolia is the southern part of the Mongolian plateau, lying along the north of China, now an autonomous region of the People's Republic of China. Its grasslands were the home of the Donghu, Xianbei and Wuhuan and the base of states such as Dai. Under the Qing its Mongol banners were governed separately from Outer Mongolia, and in the 1930s Japan sponsored the Mengjiang regime there.
