Uyghurs

Also known as Uyghur

The Uyghurs are a Turkic people who founded a powerful khaganate on the Mongolian steppe in the mid-eighth century after overthrowing the Second Turkic Khaganate in alliance with others. The Uyghur Khaganate became a major ally of the Tang Dynasty before its collapse in 840. Accounts of the Gokturk Empire treat the Uyghurs as successors to Göktürk power in the steppe.
