Outer Mongolia
Outer Mongolia was the northern part of Mongolia under the Qing dynasty, inhabited mainly by the Khalkha Mongols, who submitted to the Kangxi Emperor in 1691. After the fall of the Qing it declared independence in 1911 under the Bogd Khan, and with Soviet support became the Mongolian People's Republic in 1924, which China recognised in 1946. It corresponds to the present state of Mongolia.
