Yaoundé
Yaoundé is the capital of Cameroon, set on hills in the centre-south of the country. It began as a German military and research station founded in 1889, became the capital of French-ruled Cameroon in the 1920s and has been the capital of independent Cameroon since 1960. It is the country's second-largest city after the port of Douala.
