League of Nations
The League of Nations was the international organisation founded after the First World War to preserve peace and settle disputes. It placed the former colonies of the German Empire and Ottoman territories under the mandate system, much of it administered by the British Empire. It condemned Italy's invasion of Ethiopia in 1935, but its sanctions failed to stop the expansion of the Italian Empire.
