Yasovarman I

r. 889–c. 910 · 9th century

Yasovarman I was king of the Khmer Empire from 889 to about 910. He moved the royal seat from Hariharalaya to the Angkor area, founding the city of Yasodharapura around the hill of Phnom Bakheng, which he crowned with his state temple, and built the great East Baray reservoir. His city began the long period in which Angkor was the capital of the Khmer kings.
