Yau-bidi

d. 720 BCE · 8th century BCE · Also known as Ilu-bidi

Yau-bidi, also called Ilu-bidi, was the last king of Hamath, who seized power and in 720 BCE led a revolt against Assyria with Arpad, Damascus, Samaria and other cities. Sargon II defeated him at Qarqar, had him flayed, and made Hamath an Assyrian province, deporting many of its people. His name may contain that of the Israelite god Yahweh.
