Orontes River

The Orontes is a river of the northern Levant, flowing north through Lebanon, Syria and southern Turkey to the Mediterranean. The city of Kadesh stood on its banks. The Battle of Kadesh, fought there in 1274 BCE between the Hittite Empire and Ramesses II of Egypt, was one of the largest chariot battles in history.
