Yuasa, Wakayama
Yuasa is a coastal town in Wakayama Prefecture, Japan, on the Kii Peninsula, traditionally regarded as the birthplace of Japanese soy sauce. According to tradition the method grew from the making of Kinzanji miso, brought from China by the monk Kakushin in the 13th century, and by the Edo period Yuasa's brewers supplied distant markets. Its old brewing district is a protected historic area.
