Yuri II Vsevolodovich was grand prince of Vladimir from 1212 to 1216 and again from 1218 to 1238, a son of Vsevolod the Big Nest. In 1221 he founded Nizhny Novgorod as a base against Volga Bulgaria. When Batu's Mongols invaded in 1237–1238 he left Vladimir to gather troops, but the city was sacked and he was killed at the Battle of the Sit River on 4 March 1238.
