Zacpetén
Zacpetén is a Maya archaeological site on a peninsula in Lake Salpetén in the Petén department of northern Guatemala. Occupied from the Preclassic period, it became an important centre of the Kowoj Maya in the Postclassic, before the Spanish conquest of Petén in 1697. Excavations there have uncovered temple assemblages, ritual deposits and mass burials linked to warfare.
