Zala River

The Zala is a river in western Hungary which rises near the Austrian border and flows east and then south to empty into Lake Balaton near Keszthely, as the lake's main tributary. Its marshy lower valley sheltered the 9th-century fortress of Mosapurc, now Zalavár, seat of the Slavic princes Pribina and Kocel, and it gives its name to Zala county.
