Bavarians
The Bavarians, or Baiuvarii, are a people who first appear in written sources in the mid-6th century, settled between the Danube, the Lech and the Alps. They formed from Germanic groups and the Romanised population of the old provinces of Raetia and Noricum, under dukes of the Agilolfing family. The Bavarians later expanded east along the Danube and into the eastern Alps, and they gave their name to Bavaria.
