Munich
Munich is the capital of Bavaria in southern Germany, on the river Isar. Founded around 1158 by Henry the Lion, it became the residence of the Wittelsbach dukes, electors and kings of Bavaria from the 13th century until 1918. In the 20th century it was the birthplace of the Nazi Party and gave its name to the Munich Agreement of 1938, and it is now Germany's third-largest city.
