Bavarian Palatinate
The Bavarian Palatinate was the territory on the left bank of the Rhine that belonged to the Kingdom of Bavaria from 1816 to 1946, at first called the Rhine District. Formed from former lands of the Electoral Palatinate, the prince-bishopric of Speyer, Zweibrücken and other states, it was governed from Speyer. After the Second World War it became part of the new German state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
