Ziyad ibn Abihi

c. 622–673 · 7th century

Ziyad ibn Abihi, "Ziyad son of his father", was an Arab administrator of uncertain parentage who rose under the early caliphs. Having served Ali, he was won over by the Umayyad caliph Mu'awiya I, who acknowledged him as his half-brother and made him governor of Basra and then of all Iraq and the east, which he ruled firmly until his death in 673.
