Beri State

1750 CE – 1950 CE (approx.) · capital Beri

A small chiefship of the Bundelkhand Agency, known mainly from British lists of the minor states of central India.

Origins

Beri took shape as a separate holding in the mid-18th century as the Bundela kingdoms broke up, and its chief was confirmed by a British sanad in the early 19th century.

Rule and society

Few details of its internal history are recorded. It was a non-salute state covering a handful of villages in Bundelkhand.

Decline and legacy

After independence Beri was merged with the other Bundelkhand states into Vindhya Pradesh, and its lands were absorbed into the Indian administration by 1950.

Few sources survive for this state; details are uncertain.
