Khaniadhana State

1724 CE – 1948 CE (approx.) · capital Khaniadhana

A small Bundela Rajput principality in Bundelkhand, an offshoot of the ruling house of Orchha.

Origins

Khaniadhana was founded in the early 18th century by a branch of the Bundela Rajputs of Orchha, one of several small holdings created as the Bundela kingdoms divided among heirs.

Rule and society

Little is recorded of its internal history. Under British paramountcy it was a minor state of the Bundelkhand Agency, ruled by a Raja over a few dozen villages, without a gun salute.

Decline and legacy

Khaniadhana acceded to India after 1947 and was absorbed in 1948. Its former territory lies in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh.

Few sources survive for this state; details are uncertain.
