Nagod State

1344 CE – 1948 CE (approx.) · capital Nagod

A Parihar Rajput state in Baghelkhand, ruled first from Unchahara and later from Nagod, among the states of central India's Bagelkhand Agency.

Origins

The Parihar rulers claimed descent from the Gurjara-Pratihara dynasty and tradition dates their rule in the area to 1344, with an early seat at Unchahara. The capital moved to Nagod in the 18th century.

Rule and society

Nagod was a small agricultural state between Rewa and Panna. It came under British protection in the early 19th century and was later administered through the Bagelkhand Agency. Little detailed history is recorded.

Decline and legacy

After independence Nagod joined Vindhya Pradesh, which merged into Madhya Pradesh in 1956. It is now in Satna district.

Few sources survive for this state; details are uncertain.
