Ranasan State

1600 CE – 1948 CE (approx.) · capital Ranasan

A minor chiefship of the Mahi Kantha country in northern Gujarat, known mainly from colonial lists of tributary estates.

Origins

Ranasan was one of the many petty holdings of the Mahi Kantha region, held by a local Rajput or Koli family from around 1600. Its founding is not well documented.

Rule and society

Its Thakor ruled a few villages, paid tribute through the Gaekwads of Baroda and was supervised by the British Mahi Kantha Agency. Standard references record little about its rulers.

Decline and legacy

Ranasan was merged into Bombay Province in 1948 and became part of Gujarat in 1960.

Few sources survive for this state; details are uncertain.
