A small Bundela principality of Bundelkhand, one of the holdings created from the lands of Chhatrasal's descendants.

Origins

Sarila was founded in the 1760s by a member of the Bundela family descended from Maharaja Chhatrasal, through the Jaitpur line. It was confirmed by a British sanad in the early 19th century.

Rule and society

The Raja ruled a compact agricultural territory as a non-salute state of the Bundelkhand Agency. Few details of its internal history are recorded.

Decline and legacy

After independence Sarila was merged with the Bundelkhand states into Vindhya Pradesh and was absorbed by 1950; the town is now in Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh.

Few sources survive for this state; details are uncertain.
