Vithalgadh State

1700 CE – 1948 CE (approx.) · capital Vithalgadh

A minor chiefship of the Jhalawad country of northern Kathiawar.

Origins

Vithalgadh was a small estate in the Jhalawad region of Kathiawar, held by a local chiefly family from around 1700. Its founding is poorly documented.

Rule and society

The ruler held a few villages and, after 1807, came under British supervision in the Kathiawar Agency as a minor non-salute state. Standard references record little else.

Decline and legacy

Vithalgadh merged into the United State of Saurashtra in 1948 and became part of Gujarat in 1960, in Surendranagar district.

Few sources survive for this state; details are uncertain.
