19th Route Army

1930–1934 · 20th century

The 19th Route Army was a Chinese Nationalist army from Guangdong that won fame defending Shanghai against Japan in the January 28 Incident of 1932. Moved to Fujian, its commanders rebelled in 1933 against Chiang Kai-shek's policy of appeasing Japan and set up the Fujian People's Government. Government forces crushed the rebellion in early 1934 and the army was disbanded.
