Guangdong
Guangdong is a coastal province of southern China, with its capital at Guangzhou, and the most populous province of the country. Part of the historical region of Lingnan, it was a centre of maritime trade for over a thousand years, the base of the Southern Han kingdom in the 10th century and the gateway for European trade under the Qing Canton System. Since 1980 special economic zones such as Shenzhen have made it China's largest provincial economy.
