Lingnan

Lingnan ('south of the ranges') is the historical name for the region of southern China beyond the Nanling Mountains, covering modern Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan and at times northern Vietnam. Conquered by the Qin and then ruled by the independent kingdom of Nanyue, it was organised by the Tang as a circuit governed from Guangzhou, the base from which the Southern Han kingdom arose in the 10th century.
