Hainan

Hainan is a large tropical island in the South China Sea, off the southern coast of Guangdong, and the southernmost province of the People's Republic of China. Long a remote place of exile under the imperial dynasties, it was taken from the Nationalists by the People's Liberation Army in 1950. It became a separate province and special economic zone in 1988.
