Bạch Đằng River

Also known as Bach Dang River

The Bạch Đằng River is a tidal river in northern Vietnam near Hạ Long Bay. It was the site of three famous Vietnamese victories: Ngô Quyền's defeat of the Southern Han fleet in 938, which ended a millennium of Chinese rule, Lê Hoàn's defeat of the Song in 981, and Trần Hưng Đạo's destruction of a Mongol fleet in 1288, each using stakes planted in the riverbed.
