Fujian
Fujian is a mountainous province on the south-east coast of China, facing Taiwan across the Taiwan Strait, with its capital at Fuzhou. Once the land of the Min Yue people, it was brought under Chinese rule by the Han and settled by Chinese from the north over the following centuries. From the Song dynasty its ports, above all Quanzhou, became great centres of maritime trade, and many of its people emigrated to Taiwan and South-East Asia.
