A Famosa
A Famosa was the fortress built by the Portuguese under Afonso de Albuquerque at Malacca after they captured the city in 1511. It enclosed the hill and town by the river and withstood many sieges until the Dutch took it in 1641. The British demolished most of it in the early 19th century, and only the gate called the Porta de Santiago survives.
