Banten
Banten is a province at the western tip of Java, Indonesia, separated from West Java in 2000. Its old port of Banten, on the bay of the same name, was the centre of the Banten Sultanate, founded after Muslim forces from Demak and Cirebon took it from the Sunda Kingdom in the 1520s, and became one of Asia's great pepper ports. The Dutch gained control of it in the late 17th century.
