Abam
The Abam are an Igbo clan of modern Abia State in south-eastern Nigeria. Renowned as warriors, they served the Aro Confederacy as mercenaries in the 18th and 19th centuries, raiding communities that defied Aro authority and helping to supply captives for the slave trade. Their martial traditions survive in dances and ceremonies.
