Ibibio people
The Ibibio are a people of south-eastern Nigeria, living mainly in Akwa Ibom State between the Cross River and the coast. Organised in village groups rather than large kingdoms, they are known for the Ekpo masking society and for wood carving, and they traded with the Aro and the coastal ports. They came under British rule as part of the Protectorate of Southern Nigeria.
