Abba Bagibo

r. c. 1825–1861 · 19th century

Abba Bagibo was king of Limmu-Ennarea, the leading Oromo monarchy of the Gibe region in south-western Ethiopia, in the first half of the 19th century. Under him the kingdom reached its height as a market for gold, ivory, civet and slaves, with trade links to Gojjam and the coast. He married into neighbouring royal houses and welcomed Muslim traders, but his realm declined after his death.
