Gibe River

The Gibe is a river of south-western Ethiopia that rises in the highlands west of Addis Ababa and flows south to become the Omo. Its basin, the Gibe region, was home to Ennarea and other Gonga kingdoms and, from the 19th century, to the Oromo kingdoms of Limmu-Ennarea, Gumma, Gomma, Jimma and Gera. Several large hydroelectric dams now stand on it.
