Person
Menelik II
Menelik II was Emperor of Ethiopia from 1889 to 1913. He expanded and centralised the Ethiopian Empire and founded Addis Ababa as its capital. His victory over the Italians at Adwa in 1896 forced Italy to recognise Ethiopian independence and became a grievance driving later Italian Empire expansionism.
