Abidjan
Abidjan is the largest city and economic capital of Ivory Coast, on the Ébrié Lagoon. A small village chosen as a railway terminus, it became the capital of the French colony in 1934, and the opening of the Vridi canal around 1950 made it a deep-water port. It remained the capital after independence until Yamoussoukro was designated the official capital in 1983, and is one of West Africa's largest cities.
