Conakry
Conakry is the capital and largest city of Guinea, on the Kaloum peninsula and Tombo Island on the Atlantic coast. France occupied the island in 1887, and Conakry became the capital of the colony of French Guinea in the early 1890s, linked by railway to Kankan on the Niger basin by 1914. It has remained the capital since independence in 1958.
