Con O'Neill of Clandeboye
Con O'Neill of Clandeboye was the last Gaelic lord of Upper Clandeboye in County Down, Ireland. Imprisoned at Carrickfergus in 1602, he escaped with the help of the Scottish laird Hugh Montgomery, who in return obtained a share of his lands. By 1605 most of his territory had passed to Montgomery and James Hamilton, opening north Down to Scottish settlement before the Plantation of Ulster.
