Plantation of Ulster

1609 · 17th century

The Plantation of Ulster was the organised colonisation of Ulster by English and Scottish Protestant settlers from 1609. It followed the Nine Years' War and the Flight of the Earls in 1607, after which the lands of the O'Neills, O'Donnells and other Gaelic lords were confiscated by the crown. It reshaped the population and politics of the province.
