Plassenburg

The Plassenburg is a castle on a hill above the town of Kulmbach in Upper Franconia, Bavaria. From the 14th century it was the main fortress of the Hohenzollern burgraves of Nuremberg and their Franconian lands. Destroyed in 1554 after the Second Margrave War, it was rebuilt as a Renaissance palace with an arcaded courtyard. It later served as a fortress, prison and museum.
